The more finished version of Auguste Watering His Horse, done as a part of the Walters commission, actually seems a bit more formal than the sketch, as Miller has slightly increased the distance between the viewer and the subjects. He has also given the mountains in the far distance a bit more definition and added the wagons of the caravan in the middle distance.
